Secrets for Android is an open source Android application which is used to securely store and manage passwords and secrets on your Android phone. It uses techniques like strong encryption and auto-logout to help ensure that your secrets remain safe (assuming you use a good master password!). Context-sensitive tips guide you along through its operation, making it easy to use.

Secrets for Android is open source using the Apache 2.0 licence, so you can examine the code yourself, or modify it to your needs.

Open Source Android Apps for Developers: Skylight1 (Android open source project: library, demos and applications)

Apps Description
Skylight1 is an open source Java mobile projects framework and collection of Android and Java ME mobile applications and demos. It is affiliated with the NYCJava.net Java User Group with the revenue from the project’s initial application going to the NYPC Users Group, the parent organization, a 501c3 educational non-profit.

This project consists of the following sub-projects:
* SkylightOpenGL – OpenGL wrapper DSL to the Java binding for OpenGL ES – JSR 239 for Android and Java ME
* Skylight1 DI – a dependency injection framework.
* Skylight1 Mocks – a set of mock objects for Android phones, including playback
* Skylight1 Utils – utilities such as FPS counter, remote exception stack handling
* Skylight1 UI – common custom UI classes, views and an upcoming view framework (in progress)
* Skylight1 XML – XML parsing classes (in progress)
* Skylight1 Server – corresponding server side projects and utils
* Skylight1 Demos – api and sample demos including:
o Tanked, a 2D OpenGL demo
o Barnstormer, a 3D OpenGL demo
o Flick Test, a flick example showing borders of adjacent views
o Skylight1 Wallpaper, a live wallpaper example featuring selectable backgrounds and a fingerprint.

aDOSBox is an open souce Android project which porting the DosBox (an x86 emulator with DOS) for Android platform. DosBox is an open source DOS emulator for BeOS, Linux, Mac OS X, OS/2, and Windows. Primarily focuses on running DOS Games.

0.1Alpha is released for phones with HVGA or WVGA.
1. A working version on android emulators of Nexus One/Droid spec
2. A alpha version that can work on G1/G2 phones, but be warned it may consume a lot of memory and you may have to reboot your phone after testing it.
3. It is still quite slow and needs tuning to work properly on android phones.

Androjena is an open source Android project which is a porting of Hewlett-Packard’s Jena semantic web framework to the Google Android platform.

Jena is a Java framework for building Semantic Web applications. It provides a programmatic environment for RDF, RDFS and OWL, SPARQL and includes a rule-based inference engine.

Jena is open source and grown out of work with the HP Labs Semantic Web Programme.

The Jena Framework includes:

* Reading and writing RDF in RDF/XML, N3 and N-Triples

Apps Description
App-Soundmanager is an open source Android app which is a Sound Manager app for the Android OS. The Sound Manager app (free on Android Market) exposes the sound & volume controls. It provides a quick way to change ringmode or vibration settings, or mute all sounds, (w/shortcuts on the home screen).

For each volume setting you can set timers to automatically change volumes at set times on any given day of the week. You can specify what days each change applies to (such as only on work days).

Osm-Android is an open source Android application that renders OpenStreetMap maps and calculates routes. The OSM android application can be divided into several modules:
* The reading, storing and interpretation of the binary map data
* The map engine
* The rendering module
* The rounting module

Below is a brief list of the features that current supported by osm-android:
* Centralized storage of labels and associated coordinates (street names, lakes, parks, etc.)
* Searching of names in the label database and focusing the map on the item’s coordinates
* Drawing engine based on OpenGL ES implementation in Android
* Routing engine based on Dijkstra’s algorithm on a weighted oriented graph
* Track recording feature (still to be tested)

Open Source Android Apps for Developers: OsmAnd

Apps Description
OsmAnd (Navigation & routing based on Open Street Maps for Android devices) is an open source Android project which aims to create comfortable navigation/routing application for mobile devices (such as android phone) that have limitation with internal, operating memory & processor resource. Also application has a goal to economy internet usage or do not use it at all (use preloaded data), that’s why offline features are more prioritized than online.

OsmAnd is an OpenStreetMap application app for Android. OsmAnd uses OpenStreetMap data to not only display different raster maps, but also provide search address/POI/location functionality. OsmAnd uses its own index format data that could be created from any OSM file by using the OsmAndMapCreator utility. OsmAnd claims to be a fully open navigation system that uses open OSM data. Currently, car/bicycle/foot navigation is supported online. There is simple navigation to point offline. Points of interest can be added directly on the map while the location is shown.
