About NBA Finals:
The NBA Finals is the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the conclusion of the sport’s postseason each June. The series was named the NBA World Championship Series until 1986.

The series is played between the winners of Western Conference Finals and Eastern Conference Finals. At the conclusion of the championship round, the winner of the NBA Finals is presented the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy. (Winners from 1946 to 1977 received the Walter A. Brown Trophy) The NBA Finals has been played at the conclusion of every NBA and BAA season in history, the first being held in 1947.

Since 1985, the winner of the NBA Finals has been determined through a 2-3-2 format. The first two and the last two games of the series are played at the arena of the team who earned home court advantage by having the better record during the regular season.

About 2011 NBA Finals
The 2011 NBA Finals are the championship series of the 2010–11 NBA season and the conclusion of the season’s playoffs. The champions of the Eastern Conference will face the champions of the Western Conference under a 2–3–2 rotation starting no later than Thursday June 2, and ending no later than Thursday June 16, on ABC (unless both conference finals end in four or five games, which would push the Finals start date to Tuesday May 31).

This will be the first time since 2006, that the Los Angeles Lakers or the San Antonio Spurs will not represent the Western Conference and only the second time in 12 seasons. This will also mark the first time since 1998 that Derek Fisher, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal or Tim Duncan will not appear in the NBA Finals. The Eastern Conference representative will have home-court advantage in the Finals for only the second time since 1998, and the first since 2008.

The Finals were originally projected to begin on Thursday June 9, but were pushed up ahead one week, due to negotiations on an impending league-wide lockout at the end of the season.

About NBA Conference Finals
The National Basketball Association (NBA) Conference Finals are the Eastern Conference and Western Conference Championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA), a major professional basketball league in North America. The NBA was founded in 1946 as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league adopted its current name at the start of 1949–1950 season when it merged with the National Basketball League (NBL). The league currently consists of thirty teams, of which twenty-nine are located in the United States and one in Canada. Each team plays 82 games in the regular season. After the regular season, eight teams from each of the league’s two conferences qualified for the playoffs. The final two teams in the conference playoffs will play each other in the Conference Final, to determine the conference champion who will play in the NBA Finals.
