Apps Description
SoftKeyboard is an open source Android app which is an Android (f/w 1.5+) on screen keyboard for multiple languages. This application is also available in the Android Market, and it is recommended to download it from there. The main features include:
* All kinds of keyboards:
o supporting lots of languages via external packages. E.g., English (QWERTY, DVORAK, AZERTY and Colemak), Hebrew, Russian, Arabic, Lao, Bulgarian, Swiss, German, Swedish, Spanish, Catalan, Belorussian, Portuguese, Ukrainian and many more.
o special keyboard for text fields which require only numbers.
o special keyboard for text fields which require email or URI addresses.
* Physical keyboard is supported as-well.
* Auto capitalization.
* Word suggestions.
* special key-press effects:
o Sound on key press (if phone is not muted).
o Vibrate on key press.

SDK
* Android SDK 1.5 r3

IDE

NDK
Needed only for native (C++) code parts. If you’re not touching C++ code, you do not need to install this

Word list generator
For the dictionaries, I used a simple C# application I’ve wrote. You can download it from here. The source code is here. For creating a word list, I suggest using forums or other dialog-centric sites, since most of the time we use the phone for dialogs, so it is nice that the dictionary is dialog oriented.

Images
* PNG is a very good image container for development. It is lossless, and creates very small files. I used OptiPNG to make the images even smaller.
